Office visio 2003 activation

According to my license agreement, I'm allowed to have two copies activated. One Visio is running on my laptop and I had the other copy running on my Vista desktop computer. The mother board died on my Vista computer and I bought a new Windows 7 desktop to replace. I installed Visio on my new Win7 desktop but Microsoft refuses to activate it saying I'm over my limit. FYI, I've got the old Vista hard drive installed in my new Win7 computer so that I still have access to documents, pics, and music.

I can access my documents on the old Vista HD but not the programs. My questions:. Does Microsoft keep track when I uninstall my software? I ask because if I can only have one copy now, I'd rather have it on my desktop than laptop and I'd uninstall it from my laptop. I'm afraid to try it, though, and end up with no working copies.
